CE Event

Home Care in Deerfield IL

On May 5th we had a very informative CE event at the Wellshire of Lincolnshire. The topic was Medicare 2016 and Beyond. Peter Miska was the presenter and he enlightened the audience on the changes that will be taking place in home health within the next Year. The updates were very sobering. Home health agencies will be star rated for performance. If a company has a low star rating, chances are Medicare will not be compensating for the care. In years past, Medicare paid regardless of rating. This has raised concern for many as to whether certain home health agencies can keep their doors open. Some of the Medicare reimbursement changes have taken place, but will be complete by the end of 2016. More updates to follow…….

May 12th was even more interesting. This CE was held at The Springs of Vernon Hills. The Springs Is a new 69 bed memory facility that opened in November.  The topic was Colliding Worlds of Aging and Mental Health. Presenter was Trish Abbey-LCSW-In Home Counseling for Seniors. The event was well attended as many health care professionals sometimes have a hard time distinguishing between Alzheimer’s and Mental Health Issues. At times, the two different diagnosis’ Mimic each other, but are not the same. Trish explained the different options available to people that may have both issues and how Medicare has certain restrictions on payment especially if the individual is in a skilled facility.
